Autumn and Winter are Beautiful Too

Autumn and Winter in Burgundy can be just as good as Summer. The many deciduous forests can become a blaze of colour – nearby Fontenay is always well worth a visit. The air is clear, the temperature mild and the night skies wonderful. The roads may be quieter, but there’s still plenty to do. Red squirrels in the woods as well as deer and pheasant – watch out for the hunters though.

As winter comes on, snow falls change the landscape and make the valley even quieter. Very prompt snow ploughs keep the roads clear, the house is snug. The skies stay blue and the sun still shines – you may not need a coat to go outside. The birds are plentiful in the garden still – don’t forget to put out food and then you have the fun of watching them. You’ll find all sorts of tracks in the snow around the house, as well as up in the hills. Walking in snow is a great pleasure, and the towpath is usually clear, giving level walking.
